High-Court quashes PSA detentions of Alam, Kalwal
Srinagar, Dec 23: High Court on Friday quashed the detention order of Hurriyat (G) leaders Masrat Alam, Mehrajudin Kalwal and four others booked under Public Safety Act. The HC directed the Government to release them forthwith if they are not involved in any other case.
The court had reserved the judgments in the case after counsels for the accused, Mian Abdul Qayoom, and G N Shaheen and others had pleaded that the detention orders were out of sync with the provisions of law and being illegal needed to be quashed forthwith.
Whose detention orders were quashed are: Riyaz Ahmad Hara son of late Muhammad Ehsan Hara of Naid Khai Hajan, Peer Muhammad Ashraf son of Ghulam Nabi of Batgund Duroo Islamabad (Anantnag), and Muhammad Sheikh son of Muhammad Abdullah of Sithran Khag.
