Handloom Expo-2011 came to end today


JAMMU, Dec 28: The National Handloom Expo-2011 sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, New Delhi & organised by Handloom Development Department, J&K, at Urban Haat, Jammu, from 13.12.2011 to 28.12.2011, came to end today.. . .

On valedictory function, the Director Handloom Development Department, Chandra Gupta, gave away consolation prizes to the participant Societies.

While addressing the gathering she said that the aim behind organising such National Handloom Expo’s is to provide marketing opportunities to Handloom agencies and also provides them opportunities to have knowledge of products being produced in deifferent parts. Besides, such events provide window to Handloom Weavers for promoting awareness among consumers about the latest designs & varieties of fabrics produced in Handloom sector.

Chandra Gupta impressed upon the Weavers to adopt latest technology while taking the latest designs for weaving so that Handloom products can compete with the changing taste of the customers. She told that the organisation of National Handloom Expo also provides opportunities to the customers to buy genuine Handloom products from various states under one roof.

The participant Handloom agencies appreciated the arrangements made by Handloom Dev. Deptt. for them especially providing basic amenities like Bedding, Health care, civic facility, electricity and water.

The participant Handloom agencies thanked the Director Handloom Development Department for such arrangement made by the Department and hoped that in future the Handloom Development Department will continue to help the Handloom Societies/ Agencies for providing marketing opportunities within & outside Kashmir.

The Director Handloom Development Department informed that 61 Handloom Co-operative Societies Handloom agencies from J&K, U.P, Jharkhand, Punjab participated in the National Expo & goods worth Rs. 2.75 crore have been sold during the 16 days National Handloom Expo.

The Director Handloom Development Department appreciated the efforts of organising committee, fire services Department, Health Department, Police, event Managers & other agencies who were involved in successful conduct of National Handloom Expo.

The valedictory function was also attended by Dy. Director Handloom Dev. Department Jammu, Dy. Director (P), Dy. Director (central), Assistant Director Handlooms Jammu & other Officers/Officials of the Handloom Development Department besides Handloom Weavers / General public.
