CBI Booked 4 Army Officers & 1 business man
UDHAMPUR, 02 Jan : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today booked four top-ranked Army officers, including a Lieutenant Colonel, and a businessman in the much-publicised UPD purchase scam in Northern Command in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"As per the reports it has been submitted on reliable information that sub-standard UPS-Equipment had been supplied by M/S V Spectra Communication System Pvt Ltd to the Northern Command," official spokesman here said.
He said during the course of supply in conspiracy with unknown Army Officials of Northern Command Headquarter, 264 UPS were of sub-standard and supplied at exorbitant rates.
"The inquiry has established that UPS were purchased @ Rs 10, 984.85 per unit by M/S VCSPL from M/S Omcan Power Products Pvt Ltd whereas the same were supplied at exorbitant rates of Rs 32, 169.40 per UPS thus causing undue loss of Rs 55, 92, 751 to the exchequer on account of supply of 264 UPS," he added.
He said the enquiry further revealed that the other relied equipment may also be sub-standard and after completion of enquiry CBI registered a case under section 120-B in reference with section 420 and 420-A and section 5(2) r/w 5(1) (d) of J&K Prevention Against Corruption Act SVT 2006 against Lt Col S K Mahala of Northern Command, Major Rohit Saini, Captain Vikram Kundue, Nanak Singh Kohli Director M/S V Spectra Communication System Pvt Ltd, Mathura and an unknown Army officials of Northern Command.
"A case has been registered and investigations are in progress," he added.
