B.Ed student caught with 2 answer sheets

SRINAGAR; 31, Aug 2012: In yet another example of administrative failure at the Kashmir University, a university official has been caught by the higher ups of the varsity for allegedly providing the answer sheets for cheating during the annual B.Ed annual exams.

According to sources, on Wednesday Deputy Controller Exams Muhammad Yasin Malik working on a specific tip-off caught hold of a B.Ed candidate (name withheld) with two different answer sheets.

Sources said while the B.Ed exams were going on in the community hall of the varsity, the accused candidate left the examination hall during the midst of the exams and headed for a nearby campus canteen and inserted pre-written answer sheets into his answer-book.

Somehow, the deputy controller of examinations, Malik, came to know about the incident of cheating and he raided the centre seizing the fake and the authentic answer sheets.

“When the candidate went to the canteen he came back with two answer sheets. Interestingly, the second answer sheet was filled with the correct answers. The varsity officials are trying to ascertain whether a paper leak has happened in the varsity or not,” sources informed.

“It cannot be one man’s act. The answer scripts seized from the possession of the candidate resembled with that of the original one. Some officials of the university have also helped him in this act,” sources said.

The student and a varsity employee have been taken into custody, and the campus canteen where the switch was made has been sealed by authorities.

As the University officials continue to remain tight-lipped over the issue, sources said the varsity officials are checking that if any wider network of students and employees involved in facilitating unfair means in examinations exists.

“The candidate and a university staffer have been arrested and the canteen where the candidate had made the paper switch was sealed and its owner and some employees have been taken for questioning. The officials are probing whether any more officials are involving in the act or not,” sources said.

However, when contacted the Controller Exams Abdul, Salam Bhat, to clear the stand of the varsity over the issue, he out rightly refused to comment over the issue. “I can’t comment, I am in a meeting,” he said.

Deputy Controller Exams Muhammad Malik was also not available for his comments.
