Eid Clashes: Minor boy gets bail

SRINAGAR; 28, Aug 2012: A minor boy detained for being a participant in the clashes that erupted on Eid in Kashmir was granted bail by a local court here.  12-year-old Faizan Bashir Sofi, son of Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Eidgah, Srinagar, was produced by police in the court of Sub Registrar Srinagar, Manzoor Ahmad Zargar on Monday which had remanded him to fifteen days in juvenile home.

“Faizan was granted bail by Principal District and Sessions judge, Mohammad Shafi Khan,” Advocate Babur Qadri, who represented the minor, said.

“The juvenile is directed to be released and handed over to his father against proper receipt,” the court ordered today.

“The fact of minority in so far as the subject is concerned is not disputed; therefore, it will be in the interest of justice if the juvenile, namely, Faizan Bashir, is released on furnishing of a bond by his father in terms of the Juvenile Justice Act. The juvenile is directed to be released and handed over to his father against proper receipt,” read the court order.

On Monday Faizan was produced in a local court for “participating in the stone pelting and subsequent burning down of a police vehicle” at Eidgah on Eid-ul-Fitr.

The court had sent Faizan, a 6th standard student, to the juvenile home for 15 days.
