Srinagar-Leh Highway Closed due to Landslides
SRINAGAR; 22, Aug 2012: Scores of passengers were rescued by a team of traffic police after two vehicles came under landslides on the Srinagar-Leh Highway on Wednesday, officials told here.
The 422 km-long highway was closed late in the afternoon due to heavy rainfall that cause landslides, Traffic Inspector, Manzoor Hussain, said.
Two vehicles with twenty passengers in them came under landslides at Bajri Nalla, Hussain, who was a part of the rescue team, said.
He said all the passengers are safe.
Station House Officer, Sonmarg, Afaaq Ahmad, said that a team of police rushed to the spot as soon as they recieved the information about the vehicles being trapped.
Earlier Srinagar- Jammu National Highway also remained closed due to landslides at Ramban and Panthal. After Few hours the road was cleared and the traffic was resumed.
