1 KG herione seized by locals; Police reported only 600 grams

SRINAGAR; 01, Sep 2012: In a typical Bollywood style coincidence, a drug peddler was held and considerable quantity of heroin allegedly recovered from his possession when he mistook a bystander as mafia man and tried to make deal with him.
 The residents of Malkha said the accused who was roaming around at Sheikh Colony, mistook a local bystander as drug peddler and asked how much he would pay for heroine.
 The local got alert but played tricky. “The deal was settled at rupees eight lakhs. The accused went back to bring the consignment and  by that time the alert civilian called police to get him nabbed red handed,” said  Mushtaq Ahmad Dariel, President Shaher-e-Khaas Welfare Coordination Committee adding that the incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
 Dariel said police swung into action and nabbed the accused instantly. The locals however said they handed over one KG of heroin to the police after getting it properly weighed in full public gaze while the cops say the seizure was of mere 600 grams.
 The police has its own tale to narrate. When contacted SHO Nowhatta refuted the public claims. “They (people) are lying. We ourselves caught him (accused),” the SHO said.
 A police handout on the other hand said: “Acting on tip off Nowhatta Police send a special Police party on patrol towards Malkah Nowhatta were police party found one person in suspicious conditions.”
 “During his search some 600 grams of diacetyl morphine or diamorphine (Heroin in common parlance) was recovered from his possession from a small polythene bag which he carrying,” the the handout added.
 Police said SDPO Khanyar rushed to the spot and during on-spot questioning the accused admitted that he was carrying the contraband heroine for selling.
 An FIR vide No 58/2012 under section 02/21(b) NDPS has been registered at police station Nowhatta and investigations are on.
