Aasiya welcomes Panchayat representatives’ resignation
SRINAGAR; 27, Sep 2012: The chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, has welcomed the resignation of several Sarpanchs and Panchs in north Kashmir, saying other Panchayat representatives should follow the suit.
“These Panchayat representatives have realized that New Delhi and state government links all elections with the Kashmir dispute,” said Aasiya in a statement today, adding, “We advise the Panchayat representatives of other districts to resign from their posts. We also appeal all those persons who are affiliated with mainstream parties to join the ongoing movement for right to self-determination.”
Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in which he dared militants to attack him, Aasiya said, “Omar has thrown a challenge to every Kashmiri.”
“We want to make it clear that peace in Kashmir will only be restored when New Delhi shuns its control over JK,” she said, adding, “Till then restoration of peace in the Valley would be a far-fetched dream. Through gun, silence can be maintained for some time, but linking it with peace is nothing but non-sense,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Aasiya has condoled the demise of the mother of illegally detained Muhammad Afzal Guru and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
