NC Workers killing; Daughter accuses Police of torturing witnesses
SRINAGAR; 12, Sep 2012: Accusing the Jammu and Kashmir government of 'hiding the truth' behind the mysterious death of her father and former National Conference worker Syed Yousf, the daughter of the deceased Wednesday alleged the Crime Branch of the police 'was using force and violent methods to silence the witnesses'.
“They have forced my late father’s PSO, Khursheed Ahmad to change his statement in the court,” counsel, representing the deceased’s family at the probe commission, Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Dar quoted Yusuf’s daughter Syed Wajahat as having told the Justice Bedi Commission on Wednesday.
Dar said Wajahat revealed before the commission that the PSO of her late father was brutally ‘tortured‘ by crime branch sleuths to put pressure on him before he actually changed his statement in a local court.
“One could easily spot burn injuries on Khursheed’s hand when he was released from police custody,” Wajahat is understood to have recorded in her statement before the Bedi Commission- which has been probing the case over nearly an year.
The retired Supreme Court Judge arrived here on Tuesday to record more statements in the case.
Dar said deceased’s brother, Syed Mohammad Shafi, refused to accept police or civil administration had actually informed the family about the ‘illness’’ of Yousuf. “He was alright, had never any such medical complicacy. Neither the Crime Branch, nor any other agency or establishment informed us that he was unwell,” Shafi is said to have mentioned in his statement recorded before the commission.
The commission has set September 13 as next date of hearing.
Official sources said Wednesday’s proceedings were held at Harinawas in which state was represented by advocates Gaurv Vipchinda, Ali Mohammad Magray and Fraooq Ahmad Kathwari.
