Fresh Snowfall on Upper Reaches, Rain Kashmir Plains

SRINAGAR; 21, April 2013: The upper reaches experienced fresh snowfall while plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, had light to moderate rains, in the Kashmir valley .


A Met department spokesperson said light to moderate rain or snowfall over hills would occur at many places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There would be no major change in the weather during subsequent two days. He said snowfall is likely over Zojila Drass, on the highway, connecting Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley.

He said moderate rain or snowfall will occur at most places over hills in Kashmir division and at a few places in Jammu and Ladakh region during the next 24 hours Moderate snow fall is likely at Zojila pass on the 434 km-long Srinagar-Leh highway. Upper reaches in Gulmarg sector, including Khilanmarg and Affarwat experienced fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours.

All heights in north Kashmir, including the areas near the Line of Control (LoC) also experienced fresh snowfall. The Amarnath Cave shrine, and its periphery also experienced fresh snowfall. Reports of snowfall were also received from Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Panjterni and Pisso top on traditional Pahalgam yatra route. However, Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the route had rains.

The summer capital, Srinagar, had rains during the past two days, forcing people to wear woolen and warm cloths again. However, the spokesperson said the minimum and maximum temperatures were above normal in the capital.

He said there was possibility of light rain tomorrow which could result in slight drop in the maximum
