Jamaat supports demand for probe into ‘fake drug scam’
SRINAGAR; 20, April 2013: Expressing grave concern and anxiety over the alleged delinquent and indifferent attitude of the government towards recently unearthed ‘drug-scandal’, Jama’at-e-Islami J&K has supported the civil-society demand of impartial probe into this murky affair by a high-level judicial commission. It has also called for awarding exemplary punishment to all those involved in the scam.
“The meaningful silence by Govt of India as well as that of J&K is quite astonishing and clearly depicts that they have no concern over the plight of common Kashmiris who have been consuming spurious, fake and sub-standard poisonous medicines for a pretty long time and might have suffered a lot including the loss of human lives and a number of other health hazards. Instead of being shameful for this murky affair, Mr Sham Lal Sharma is threatening the public by declaring their protests as illegal and unjustified without having any locus standi to say so”, the Jamaat Spokesman Advocate Zahid Ali said in a statement to KNS.
He said the Jama’at-e-Islami has vehemently condemned Sharma’s statement considering it ‘as contempt of the whole Kashmiri nation and all those who have suffered because of his maladministration’.
“His statement has also hurt the sentiments of lacs of people here which no civilized nation can tolerate. Jama’at-e-Islami while fully supporting the public concern regarding the drug-scam, demand stern and exemplary punishment to all those involved whether in state administration and outside it so that no one dares to play with the life of people in the future. Jama’at also supports the demand of the civil-society to include some prominent members of the society in the probe so as to lend it credibility”, said Advocate Zahid Ali.
