Slapping case: Omar says Kitchloo’s conduct unbecoming

KN DESK; 21, April 2013: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today pulled up Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo who is alleged to have slapped a senior government officer, saying that such conduct was “not becoming of a minister”.

Seeking to douse the controversy created by a reported incident in which Mr Kitchloo slapped the CEO of Kishtwar Development Authority Mr Riyaz Choudhary on 18 April, Mr Omar said: “I told him (Kitchloo) that this (slapping a senior officer) is not the conduct that is becoming of a minister. Whatever be the cause, as a public representative such incidents need to be avoided.” “This is what I told to the KAS Officers Association as well. They seem to be fairly satisfied. I had a conversation with the minister, he has understood that this should not have happened and will not be repeated again in future,” he said. The Chief Minister directed Mr Kitchloo (in file photo) to sit down with the official concerned and resolve the matter “amicably”. The minister has assured him that “such incidents will not be repeated in future,” Mr Omar said.
