Strike against spurious drug scam evokes mixed response
SRINAGAR; 20, April 2013: Strike called by the veteran leader of Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the spurious drug trade in Kashmir evoked mixed response in the Valley today.
Barring the commercial hub of Lal Chowk and adjoining areas, shops and business establishments in most of the Kashmir remained open, official sources said.
Public and private transport was plying on the roads normally, while attendance in government offices and banks was also nearly normal, they said. However Schools remained closed
Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a general strike to protest against the alleged supply of spurious drugs to government hospitals.
He has also demanded registration of a case against the then Health Minister of the state and the officials incharge of procuring drugs for government hospitals.
He called the spurious drug supply to the valley, a conspiracy to kill more and more kashmiris.
