Al-Nakba Day Observed in Kashmir University
SRINAGAR; 15, May 2013: Hundreds of Students of Kashmir University today organized a protest rally against the Israeli occupation in Palestine.
Students were commemorating Al Nakba day which is also commemorated throughout the world. For the Palestinians it is an annual day of commemoration of the displacement that preceded and followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948.
Students belonging to various departments in Kashmir University assembled in front of Allama Iqbal Library and then took out a rally shouting anti-Israel and anti-American slogans. Students held posters of a “key” which signifies the Nakba. Students also carried banners of, “Palestine and Kashmir-united against occupation and oppression”, “The axis of evil-Israeli, America, ”
Students in their slogans drawed comparisons between Kashmiri and Palestinian political prisoners and also raised slogans in favour of Shaheed Afzal Guru . “We reject western ideas of Democracy, secularism, liberalism etc and Muslims must unite under the banner of Islam to tackle oppression of foreigners”, said a student.
An Online event was also organised on social networking site Facebook, by a Kashmiri Fb user, Zahid Amin - who is also a student of Kashmir University. The Online event got more than 250 attendents in a time of less than 24 hours.
Zahid in one of his status posted, "Palestinians are one of the largest and longest-suffering refugee populations in the world. 500 villages were destroyed by Jewish terrorists in 1948 and over 7 Lac Palestinians were displaced."
