Encounter in Machil; 2 Indian troopers Killed
KUPWARA; 18, May 2013: Encounter broke out between rebels and Indian Army troopers in Machil sector of Kupwara district near LoC.
Sources said that Indian Army's patrolling party spotted a group of rebels near the Line of Control in Machil sector. The Indian Army fired on the rebels and in retaliation two Indian troopers lost their lives. Indian Army said that encounter is still in progress and operation has been launched to track down the rebels.
From last week Indian Army has launched a big search operation in North Kashmir's Handwara and Kupwara areas after a group of rebels were spotted on the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector. Sources said two battalions of Indian Army, Army's Para Commandos and troops from Special Operation Group of Police were involved in the search operation along the Line of Control from Handwara to Tanghdar forests. However no contact was established with the rebels. Indian Army has stepped up surveillance along the LoC as this is the time when rebels try to land into the Valley. Besides, barbed wire fencing three tier security is in place all along the LoC to prevent the rebels to enter the valley.
