Jama’at concerned at nocturnal fire incidents in Shopian
SHOPIAN; 11, May 2013: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Friday expressed serious concern over the mysterious nocturnal fire incidents at village Nagabal, Urpara, near Imam Sahab, Shopian, in south Kashmir.
“Unknown miscreants during night hours are putting on fire the cowsheds and throwing stones on roof tops and windowpanes for the last two months. Despite repeated requests and reporting of this sordid situation to the concerned police station, Zainapora, no action has so far been taken to apprehend the culprits. It seems some unknown agency is involved in these incidents. The people are living under constant threat and intimidation,” said the Jama’at spokesman advocate Zahid Ali in a statement.
“The police instead of providing protection to people have directed them not to move out of their homes after evening. The people gave up the idea of night surveillance on their own. As a result, the fire incidents continued to occur as usual and so far eight such incidents have occurred in the village and stone pelting is going without any break on daily basis,” said the spokesman, condemning the mute spectators' role of police and district administration. Jama’at has appealed to the chairman State Human Rights Commission and Kashmir Bar Association to come to the rescue of intimidated human population.
