Rebel Martyred; 3 Indian troopers injured in Srinagar

SRINAGAR; 23, May 2013: An early morning gunfight in Srinagar on Thursday left a rebel dead while three Indian troopers were wounded in the fight, police said.

The gunbattle started in the Fateh-Kadal area of summer capital Srinagar in which a top pro-freedom rebel identified as Hilal Molvi was martyred. Molvi belongs to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and hails from North Kashmir's Pattan area, a strong bastion of anti-India rebels.

"Three police officers including one sub inspector and two constables were injured in the gunfight," city police chief Ashiq Bukhari said. The occupying forces zeroed in on a residential house upon a tip-off about the presence of LeT rebel.

Police said the militant fired from the automatic weapon and hurled grenades for four hours before getting killed. "He refused to surrender," the police chief said.

  1. Each of us, all my Indian and Kashir brothers and sisters have a role to play to stop this meaningless violence in the valley. We should be first human beings, then Indian or kashmiri or plitician or revolutionary. The craze for human blood must end and everybody should play their role in developing the State and country; improving the living conditions of our people. Violence has no other outcome than violence. Good luck.
