Tral Encounter: 4 Indian troopers killed; 1 rebel martyred

PULWAMA; 24, May 2013:  The toll of dead Indian troopers in an ambush in Bachoo Village of Tral area in Pulwama District reached to four as one more Indian trooper succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports one rebel was also martyred in this shoot-out. while rebels before escaping from the scene managed to decamp with arms and ammunitions belonging to Indian troopers.

Police sources said that 3 and 42 Rashtriya Rifles, SOG and police were laying a cordon in Bachoo village in south Kashmir’s Tral town when rebels suddenly resorted to indiscriminate firing. Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said Indian Army troopers took the rebels as their own men as the rebels were in Indian Army uniform. “Rebels deceived the Indian Army troopers and fired upon them killing three troopers on spot while the fourth trooper breathed his last in the hospital,” Kumar said.

DIG South Kashmir said that rebels managed to snatch a riffle and other ammunition from a slain trooper. “Rebels also took away the rifle of their slain accomplice who has been identified as Saifullah Ahangar,” he said.

The slain Army troopers have been identified as Ashwani Kumar, Ajit Singh, Dalbir Singh and Kanwaljit Singh.

The deceased rebel identified as Saifullah Ahangar aka Saitha, aka Muhafiz S/O: Mohd Rafi Ahanger R/O: Hariparigam according to police sources was 22. “He was possessing Engineering Diploma and had joinedrebel ranks recently,” a police official told.
