BEMINA DOUBLE MURDER: Mother prime suspect, says police

SRINAGAR; 28, July 2013: In a dramatic revelation, police said the preliminary investigations in the July 24 murder of two siblings at Bemina here point towards the mother, even though reports of technical investigations were still pending.

“Police has completed its investigation and so far it establishes the mother of the two murdered kids as prime suspect. We are waiting for technical investigations like forensic reports and finger print analysis,” Srinagar’s Senior Superintendent of Police Ashiq Bukhari told reporters.

The two children were found dead lying in a pool of blood with their mother critically wounded in their rented accommodation at Iqbalabad, Bemina.

The murdered kids—Mohammad Hashim, 2, and his sister Aalia, 4, had their throats slit with sharp weapon. Their mother Naseema, with her half-slit throat, had reported the incident to her husband Iftikhar Ahmad, an imam in the local mosque.

Bukhari said the woman was apparently mentally unsound and had visited many ‘pirs’ (faith healers) few days before the incident at her native village in Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora districts.

“Her condition is improving and we are sure that she is mentally unsound. Still we will wait for doctors who can say about her mental health,” he said. He said when the woman regained consciousness in the SMHS Hospital she tried to kill herself.

“In next few days all the investigations including technical will be over. But one thing is sure: no outsider is not involved in the killings,” Bukhari added.
