475 drugs declared fake in 7 years: DAK
SRINAGAR;14,Aug 2013: Around 475 drugs were found spurious or substandard by the State Drug Department between 2006 and 2013 without anyone being prosecuted for their manufacture or supply, the Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) said on Tuesday.
“It is shocking to know that 475 drugs were found spurious/substandard by the Drug Department from 2006 to 2013 and surprisingly no prosecution was launched by state government,” DAK chairman Dr Nisar-ul-Hasan said in a statement here.
Dr Nisar alleged that the government has been trying to hush-up the ongoing drug scam that is suspected to have “killed 500 children and hundreds of adults.”
“Politicians especially the Chief Minister try their best to hush up the matter by giving a clean chit to (former Health Minister Sham Lal) Sharma who is the CM’s political ally to safeguard his chair at the cost of human lives, which mean nothing to the CM because they are Kashmiris,” Dr Nisar said.
“Even the status report of government inquiry says there is an angle of criminality, which in view of being deep rooted needs to be probed by an independent commission. The Crime Branch despite charge sheeting Purchase Committee officials and verification board of Directorate Health Services Kashmir are still holding their positions,” he said.
“Unfortunately Crime Branch has discreetly exonerated Sharma thus being selective and biased which questions the authenticity of its investigations,” he added.
