Curfew Imposed in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba and Rajouri Districts

KN DESK; 11, Aug 2013: Curfew has been imposed in districts of Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri as a precuationary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

Yesterday some miscreants in Jammu tried to march towards muslim majority areas including Gujjar nagar, Khantika Talab etc, however Police resorted to cane-charging and dispersed the miscreants. The violent mob also clashed with police leaving at least 10 persons, 7 of them cops, injured.

Tension gripped in Gujjar nagar area of Jammu when a bus driver ran pleading help from the locals.“My bus was chased by some Bajrang Dal activists carrying swords and hockey sticks and I somehow managed to flee and park my vehicle in Gujjar Nagar area”, the bus driver told

During night activists of right wing organsiations, VHP, BJP and Bajrang Dal, assembled at New Plot, late last evening, and torched at least five shops in the area. However, Divisional Commissioner Shant Manu said that only an attempt was made to torch the shops, which was foiled by the police. A Curfew was imposed in the city during late night hours.

There were also repots that miscreants set a vehicle on fire at Rehari Chowk, while a passenger bus was set ablaze in Kachi Chawni area. A vehicle was also torched in on Jammu-Pathankote highway at Vijaypur.

Reports from Rajouri also said that some men pelted stones on a mosque when muslims were offering Isha prayers. The district administration reacting quickly and imposed the curfew. Indian Army has been called in to restore peace.

In Udhampur district, authorities without taking any kind of risk has imposed a curfew. Meanwhile BJP leader Arun jaitley has announced to visit to Kishtwar today.
