Geelani castigates Govt. for Extension of land lease to Indian Army

SRINAGAR; 04, Aug 2013: Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday termed government's move of extending lease agreement of three thousand kanals of land to Indian Army in Tosh area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district as unacceptable.

Geelani said that 50 year land lease is ending in March 2014 and that administration insists for extension in agreement thereby 'causing great concern'. "Entire population of the area is facing tremendous problems and challenges due to presence of Indian Army and its artillery", Geelani said adding that this is badly affected the economy and social life in the area.

Geelani said that if the area is vacated natural scenery beauty of the whole area may become a tourist attraction and in turn improve the economy and financial condition of local population. "The area is rich and famous for its herbal plants and there is every possibility for promotion of industry related to medicine", Geelani said.

The Hurriyat leader said that presence of armed forces in civilian areas is serious matter and violation of basic human right.
