Geelani condemns arrest of Hurriyat (G) District President
SRINAGAR; 22, Aug 2013: The veteran Hurriyat leader and the Chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani had strongly condemned the arrest of Hurriyat (G) District President Kulgam, Mohammad Shaban.
In a statement issued today Geelani said, "Pro-Indian political parties in general and general Secretary (CPIM) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in particular are subjecting our party leaders and activists to political reprisal and for this purpose use state police force as a tool."
Syed Ali Geelani challenged the pro-Indian politicians to face pro-freedom leaders on political front.
The Statement further reads, "Police today arrested Muhammad Shaban Dar when he was leaving Hurriyat headquarters at Hyderpora. Tehreek e Hurriyat is an over ground political organization and its political ideology and programme is neither secret nor hidden from public. There is no moral or constitutional justification the way, administration and police is behaving with Tehreek e Hurriyat."
adding "Mohammad Shaban Dar Kulgam is a prominent religious and political figure in District Kulgam and there is no reason for his detention except other than that, MLA of said locality is afraid of his public popularity."
Meanwhile, Syed Ali Geelani expressed his deep concern over continuous detention of Hurriyat activist, Ab Rashid Lone and while stressing for his immediate release said that he was arrested on the auspicious day of Eid ul Fitr and alleged that these cowardice tactics of administration and police cannot deter spirits of pro -freedom leaders and activists.
