Internet Services snapped in J&K
SRINAGAR; 11, Aug 2013: Internet connectivity services were snapped in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Officials unwilling to be quoted admitted that the measure was taken in a bid to prevent the spread of rumours.
As the communal violence is spreading to other districts. Service providers were tight-lipped about the development, but said this had become standard practice in times when tension simmered in the territory.
Suspension of internet services is becoming a common thing in Kashmir where in the past whenever tension mounts, authorities as a precautionary measure are suspending such services.
A blogger from Kashmir, wished not to be named said, "Internet services are not being suspended to stop spreading of rumors but government paves a safe way to biased Indian media to turn things in their way."
