Omar's Govt is the Darkest period of Kashmir: Geelani
SRINAGAR; 20, August 2013: Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a statement issued today termed the Omar Abdullah lead government as the darkest period of Kashmir.
As per the Geelani, "People during the tenure of 5 years of Omar Abdullah saw nothing else than tyranny and repression."
Geelani also mentioned about some cases and alleged that "this government had provided shields to the killers in the cases of Shaheed Aasiya and Nelofar, 125 teenagers of 2010 including Zahid Farooq, Wamiq Farooq, Inayatullah and Tufail Matoo, Execution of Mohammad Afzal Guru and episodes like Markundal and Gool." adding "Hundreds of Kashmiri boys without any crime are being slapped with the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA)."
He further said, "Until Village Defense Committees are disarmed and dissolved, threat will haunt and prevail there and Muslim Community will feel insecure. Expenditure incurred on these Village Defense Committees is an un-necessary burden over state exchequer and huge amount is being spent over oppression and excesses perpetrated by these committees and for all this, the communal elements as well as state government is liable to be responsible. Dissolution of armed wings of Sangh Prewar is inevitable for maintenance of communal harmony and brotherhood in the area, it will put an end to present turmoil and thereof the differences between the two communities."
While commenting on continuous curfew in Kishtwar, Geelani said, "A grave yard silence can be created ,however neither it can be called as peace nor can be claimed that a sense of security has developed among the people living in the area. Until culprits responsible for August 9 incidents are arrested, innocents released and ensure dissolution of VDC ,no guarantee for return and maintenance of peace can be given."
