Police Unearths Credit Card Scam Worth Crores

JAMMU; 07, Aug 2013: Police today solved the credit card scam worth crores and arrested two people. A case under sections 420, 120B, 43/66 (A), (B) and (C), 406, 467 in First Information Report(FIR) number 110/2013 was registered at Nowabad Police Station.

On a tip-off to the police, that one Owais Yousuf Kabboo,resident of Nund Rishi Colony, Bemina Srinagar was trying to procure credit card swipe machines from Jewel Chowk area, with an intention to cheat the owners of credit cards by swiping forged credit cards of their original credit cards, here in this winter capital of the state.

“Acting swiftly on the information, a raid was conducted by the four-member special team headed by SP North JS Johar and Owais was apprehended,” Atul Goel, SSP Jammu told media here.

Mr Goel said accused Owais also disclosed names of his gang members and their ‘modus operandi’ during the investigations.

The SSP also said, “Owais along with his accomplices, used to procure credit card machines from willing shopkeepers and transport them to Bangalore where they were swiped with forged credit cards particularly the international credit cards.”

The district Police chief said the amount for which the card would be swiped would be transferred to the account of the shopkeeper concerned, from where it would be shared amongst the gang members.

Acting on his confession, raids were also conducted in Srinagar, and one Shabbir Ahmad Mir, resident of Firozabagh, Srinagar was arrested. “Four credit card machines, which had been used in fraudulent transactions, were also seized,” the SSP stated the associated bank accounts were frozen and their details were also obtained.

“So far, evidence of fraudulent transactions of more than 1.57 crores has come to light,” he added. A police party has also been rushed to Bangalore where the team affected the arrest of one Saud Pasha, resident of Bangalore and recovered several (allegedly) forged credit cards from him.

“The matter is being investigated and more arrests cannot be ruled out,” he said.
