Protests on Eid day in Kashmir
KN DESK; 09, Aug 2013: Protests broke out in several areas of Indian occupied Kashmir today on Eid day. Kashmir along with several Asian countries is celebrating Eid today after the Holy month of Ramdan.
Indian authorities yesterday evening imposed strict restrictions on pro-freedom leaders inclduing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Khan, Zaffar Iqbal and others. Earlier it was predicted that Mirwaiz will be allowed to offer prayers at Eidgah however today morning he was also confined to his home.
Peaceful demonstrations were reported from early morning in South Kashmir's Shopian town.
A large gathering after offering Eid prayers marched towards the residence of Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Hyderpora. Police swung into action lobbed tear-canisters to chase away the protesters.
In Eidgah area of Srinagar, People after offering Eid prayers, pelted stones on Police personnel deployed there. Police retaliated with tear-shelling, resulting in injuries many of them. An Indian flag was also burnt by the protesters and a Pakistani flag was hoisted.
Police also lobbed tear-canisters on protesters in main chowk Sopore.
