Substantial use of ‘arbitrary’ powers reason for political instability: Geelani
SRINAGAR; 18, Aug 2013: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday said that substantial use of ‘arbitrary’ powers in the State of Jammu and Kashmir is the basic reason for uncertainty and political instability in the region. He said that the government is making things more complicated instead of solving issues.
Geelani denounced the police action against youth in Shopian and Baramulla areas. He criticized the state police for their fresh arrest drive against the youth of these areas. “Police has created a state of fear and chaos in nook and corner of the valley”, Geelani said.
In a statement issued to press here, Geelani said that Shopian police ransacked residential houses in the area. “As public reported, a tear gas shell exploded in the house of a local causing heavy damage to belongings and the religious literature”, he said. The statement read that police action has caused concern in Shopian town.
Talking about the series of arrests in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town, Geelani expressed his concern over it. “Police has launched a crackdown against youth and is hell-bent to tarnish their career”, he said.
