Undeclared Curfew continues on Day 2 in Palhalan

BARAMULLA: 05, Aug, 2013: Undeclared Curfew continued for the second day today in Palhalan Pattan in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, where the situation was tense after arrest of a local youth, who is also Imam of a local mosque.

People alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of their homes by the Indian forces and state police personnel deployed since early morning yesterday.

“We are being repeatedly, told to remain indoor as curfew remained imposed,” the residents alleged and said they could not offer ‘ Taraveh’ prayers in mosque because of restrictions.

However, Indian official sources said restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC were being strictly implemented to prevent any law and order problem in Palhalan Pattan and adjoining areas since yesterday following clashes on the night of August 3 after arrest of Nazir Ahmad Tantray by police and Indian forces.

Describing the arrest of Tantry as an attempt to “disturb peace in the area,” the residents alleged that there was no stone pelting or any other demonstration in the recent past in the area.

“The arrest was made to force people to took to streets,” the residents alleged and demanded immediate release of Tantray, who was leading prayers in a local mosque.
