Undeclared Curfew Imposed in Palhalan
BARAMULLA: 04, Aug 2013: Indian authorities today imposed an undeclared Curfew in Palhalan Pattan in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, where the situation was tense after arrest of a local youth, who is also Imam of a local mosque.
Official sources said authorities imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in Palhalan Pattan and adjoining areas since early this morning following clashes last night after arrest of Nazir Ahmad Tantray, in a joint operation by police and Indian Army.
However, the situation on the ground was entirely different as people alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of their homes by the occupational forces.
Describing the arrest of Tantray an attempt to disturb peace in the area, the residents alleged that there was no stone pelting or any other demonstration in the recent past in the area.
The arrest was nothing but to force people to took to streets, the residents alleged and demanded immediate release of Tantray, who was leading prayers in a local mosque.
People said they were directed to remain indoor by the Indian forces and not allowed to move out since this morning.
Yesterday, traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla road was disrupted for several hours after the demonstrators blocked the traffic, demanding release of Tantray. A number of people, including Indian Police personnel, were injured in the clashes
