Curfew continues in Shopian on Day 3

SHOPIAN; 09, Sep 2013: Curfew continued for the second day on Monday in Shopian town of Jammu and Kashmir, where four civilians were killed by 14Bn of CRPF on Saturday, authorities said.

Police and CRPF troopers were deployed at all parts of the district meanwhile a clashes broke out on the outskirts and interior areas of the town.

Intensified clashes were reported on the third consecutive day from Gagren, Baba-Mohalla and Tukroo areas of the town.

During the evening hours youth hit to streets and defy the curfew. Police retaliated with rubber bullets in which 2 youth sustained injuries.

CRPF also went berserk in Nakhasi Mohala and broke window panes of houses.

Ajacent towns of Pulwama and Kulgam also witnessed a complete shutdown and clashes between the Indian forces and youth.

On Saturday, four civilians were killed in Gagran area of Shopian district, when troopers of 14Bn of CRPF opened unprovoked firing on civilians.

Meanwhile the body of the fourth victim, a non-local (Bihari) was laid to rest on Sunday evening outside District Police Lines Shopian.
