DAY 21: Amid Shutdown, Fresh Protests Broke Out in Shopian
SHOPIAN; 27, Sep 2013: South Kashmir’s Shopian town shuts today on 21st Day since the killings of 5 youth took place in Gagren area of the town earlier this month. Authorities imposed a curfew in the entire town on 8th of September which continued till 21st of September and since then town is observing a complete shutdown demanding removal of the CRPF camp and punishment to the killers.
Complete shutdown was also observed today on 6th straight day in the town. After congregational Friday prayers youth took to streets and pelted stones on DC office complex, Police swung into action and lobbed numerous teargas canisters and sound shells to disperse the protesters, who resisted by throwing stones triggering clashes that continued till evening. Reports of stone-pelting incidents were also received from other parts of main town including Kanipora, Alyalpora, Bagander etc
The locals have decided to go on strike until the camp will be removed completely.
