One more youth shot dead by CRPF in Shopian; Toll 5
SHOPIAN: 11 , Sep 2013: Another youth, identified as Rafiq Ahmad Rather (28 years) S/O: Late Gh Qadir Rather R/O: Saidpora Shopian was allegedly killed after CRPF troopers shot him dead in Meemander area of Shopian.
According to eye witnesses, A protest was going in Gagren area of Shopian demanding removal of CRPF camp. Rafiq a resident of an adjoining village was coming to the town to purchase medicines for his 6 months daughter, carrying a bag in his hands. CRPF troopers of 14 Bn allegedly shot him dead on the spot.
Thousands of people from the nearby areas assembled and took the body towards Shopian town. On reaching Gagren outside CRPF camp, troopers also resorted to aerial firing. 2 women sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, an undeclared curfew was imposed in the town, however the mourners defying curfew offered funeral prayers of the deceased.
Intensified clashes are going in the town at various places till the last reports came. Police lobbed dozens of tear-canisters and sound shells to chase away the mob, who resisted by pelting stones on the forces.
Today morning Curfew was lifted from the town after 4 youth were shot dead in Gagren area of Shopian due to which curfew was imposed in the town.
