Shopian Chalu Foiled; Amid Curfew Violent clashes broke out

SHOPIAN; 10, Sep 2013: A strict curfew was enforced in the town and adjoining areas to foil the Hurriyat's Shopian Chalu programme. Forces were deployed in strength to thwart any kind of untoward incident from any area. Despite Curfew, clashes broke out in Gagren, Baba Mohalla, Malik Mohalla, Alyalpora, Kanipora, Bongam and Bonabazar areas of main town. While sproadic clashes were also reported from the adjoining villages of the main town including Shirmal, Narwaw, Tukroo, Meemander and Shamshipora villages.

Police fired dozens of tear-smoke shells to chase away the protesters who resisted by throwing stones. According to eye-witnesses, Police and paramiliatries also fired rubber bullets due to which 3 persons sustained injuries.

Curfew was lifted in the town on 6:00 PM due to which massive demonstration was held against the civilian killings. Protesters demanding that they will not stop until the killers will be hanged in public.
