SHOPIAN KILLINGS AFTERMATH: Curfew Imposed in Parts of Valley

SHOPIAN; 08, Sep 2013: Curfew has been imposed in many parts of the valley while restrictions have been placed at some places.

All the deceased who were killed by CRPF yesterday in Gagren, were identified as civilians without having any connection with any rebel organization. Curfew was imposed in the town yesterday evening. Violent protests trying to defy curfew broke out early in the morning in Baba Mohalla and Gagren areas of the town. Police used aerial firing and lobbed numerous tear-canister to keep people confined to their homes. While as in Gagren a large number of people including women held a sit-in-protest demanding punishment to the CRPF troopers who killed 4 innocents. CRPF troopers once again fired teargas shells to quell the sit-in-protests. Clashes going on in the town till the last reports came. Police have sealed all the roads connecting Shopian with the rest of the valley.

Curfew has also been imposed in the Kulgam District, as one of the deceased belong to a village of this district. While as Strict restrictions has been put in parts of Srinagar including Maisuma, Budshah Chowk etc and an undeclared curfew has been imposed in Pulwama and Islamabad Districts.

Complete shut-down is being observed in the valley against the innocent killings. Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been put under house arrest while JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has been detained and lodged in Kothibagh Police Station.

Pro-Indian political parties have also condemned the Shopian incident, Mehbooba Mufti of PDP has lambasted the NC government and termed the incident as a failure of Omar-led coalition government which is unable to stop the blood shedding of Kashmiri innocents by the hands of Indian forces.
