Shopian Shuts on 17th Consecutive Day
SHOPIAN; 23, Sep 2013: South Kashmir's Shopian district observed a complete shutdown today on the 17th consecutive day since the killings of 5 youth by Indian forces took place in Gagren area o 7th and 11th of September.

All the schools, college, business establishments, banks and other business establishments remained closed. Traffic remained off from roads and most streets were deserted. A civil curfew like situation was observed in the town.
Some prominent persons of the town hold a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Shopian Bashir Ahmad Bhat, who assured them the Camp will be removed completely till October 10. However as per attendants of the meeting, DC Shopian also said that they will establish office of the Additional Superintendent of Police at the place of the camp.
It is pertinent to mention here, that the land originally belongs to Industrial area.
Later during the evening hours, a public meeting was held however went futile as most of the people demanded that shut-down will continue until the last CRPF trooper will leave the area.
As the meeting ends, youth hit the streets and held a peaceful demonstration chanting slogans like 'Jabri Naata Toud Do - Kashmir Hamara Chod Do' etc etc.
Pertinently 5 youth were killed by 14 Bn of CRPF on 7th and 11th of September in Gagren area of Shopian. Authorities imposed curfew on 8th of September and was lifted on 22nd of September.
