Shopian Shuts on Day 19; Sehrai and Others visited bereaved Families

SHOPIAN; 25, Sep 2013: Complete shutdown continues in Shopian town today on 19th Consecutive day since the killings of 5 youth took place in the town allegedly by 14Bn of CRPF on 7th and 11th of September. Authorities imposed a curfew in the area on 8th of September which continues till 21st of September.

All the schools, college, shops and other business establishments remained closed. Traffic was off from roads.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) General Secretary Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Jammu and Kashmir People League Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Hurriyat leader Muhammad Yousuf Falahee visited to the bereaved families.

Addressing a public gathering General Secretary of Hurriyat (G) said, “We have laid more than 6 lac sacrifices for our freedom struggle since 1947 and till its logical end we will continue to raise our voice against the Indian illegal occupation. Incidents like Gagren, Gool, Markundal etc are not accidental. They are being pre-planned and will continue to occur in the occupied territory until last trooper of India is here. We strongly condemn the acts of killing innocent college students. Our strike and struggle is genuine and we have right to live freely.”

Commenting on the upcoming elections, Sehrai said, “We reject the elections that are being held by Indian governments here.” Adding “People should refrain from taking part in such processes, they are the killers and they are among them who are getting money from the killers. We can’t term them representatives; they are only the blood sellers.”

 Pertinently, authorities have imposed Section – 144 in the town, which will remain in force till 10th of October but so far they are looking helpless to prevent pro-freedom campaign to visit Shopian and address public gatherings.

People are demanding punishment to the killers and shifting of CRPF camp from the town and have decided to go on strike until camp will be removed completely.

Meanwhile clashes broke out during evening hours in some parts of main town. Police lobbed numerous teargas canisters to chase away the protesters.
