Shopian Under Curfew for 15th Day; Valley Observes Shutdown
SHOPIAN; 21, Sep 2013: Curfew continues in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today on 15th day. An indefinite curfew was clamped in the town on 7th of September after 14 Bn of CRPF killed 4 civilians. Curfew was lifted on 11th of September However was re-imposed again after death of another youth took place in the town talking the toll to 5.

Indian troopers continue to man the streets of the town. A siege had been laid by the government in the entire town which completes half a month today.
A local Hilal Ahmad informed, “After the shortage of baby food and medicines, we are facing shortage of eatables and other food items in the town”
“Thousands of people have been caged by the government, We had been made hostages by the Indian regime.” Another local on the basis of anonymity said.
JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yaseen Malik today in a statement said, “Continous curfew and restrictions have turned into a human catastrophe and people are facing the scarcity and shortage of life saving drugs and other important needs of life. To fulfill our moral, human and religious duty of supporting the suppressed humans of Shupian.”
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed today across the valley on the call of Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the indefinite curfew in Shopian.
Syed Geelani in a statement said, “People of Shopian are at the verge of Starvation. The Indian puppet regime should end the curfew there. Already they have killed 5 youth in a week by bullets and they are killing others by keeping them locked in their homes.”
All the exams of the university that was scheduled during these days, were also not held.
All the schools, colleges, shops, banks and other business establishments remained closed. Traffic remained off from roads. Youth burnt tyres at on various roads.

Troopers were also deployed at some parts of the city to thwart any kind of protest. Yesterday 20 persons were injured in Nowhatta and Khanyar after police fired several pellets and dozens of tear-canisters.
