Uncertainity Over Haqeeqat-E-Kashmir Concert, Organizers Cry Foul

SRINAGAR; 06, Sep 2013: Uncertainty continues to loom over the planned Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir concert in Srinagar with Jammu and Kashmir government Friday asking the organizers to submit the list of participants along with the arrangements made for the concert before giving them permission.

Enraged over the ‘delaying tactics’, the organizers Friday accused the J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah of ceding control of the state to New Delhi just to ‘save his chair’.

“Even if the government doesn’t allow us permission, we will still try to gather at Municipal Park in Srinagar. A peaceful sit-in protest will also be held at Lal Chowk to protest Zubin Mehta concert,” one of the organizers said.

The organizers said the deputy commissioner of Srinagar had asked them to submit the details of the concert before the government could allow them permission.

“The DC asked us to submit the list of people who are participating in the concert, how they are going to make it to the venue (Municipal Park) and the arrangements made for parking vehicles,” he said.

“Why do they need the list of people? Do they want to put us under house arrest? It seems Delhi is dictating terms to Omar Abdullah who had ceded control of the state to them in order to protect his chair,” he said.

If the concert was meant for Kashmir, why is it that only 100 Kashmiris have been invited to the concert while the rest are being called in from India, he asked.

As opposed to Zubin Mehta’s Ehsaas-e-Kashmir concert, the civil society group has planned to hold Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir concert in Srinagar.

Zubin Mehta's Saturday concert which will be telecast live in 40 European countries has ran into rough weather with activists demanding that holding such a concert will send a wrong signal to the international community about the political status of J&K.
