Zubin arrives Kashmir; Protests held at Various places

SRINAGAR; 06, Sep 2013: Amid tight security, Zubin Mehta today arrived at Srinagar airport along with German Ambassador Michael Steiner and his wife.


Meanwhile protests were held in various parts of the Kashmir against the Zubin's musical concert "Ehsaas-e-Kashmir' which is scheduled tomorrow.

Protests were reported from the Kashmir University Campus, where hundreds of students hold anti-Zubin demonstration. The protesters alleging the concert “an Indian attempt to mislead the world” raised slogans like “Go India go back”.

The students assembled after the prayers and held strong protests. “Despite Indian efforts we will never ever forget our martyrs and the ongoing movement which is aimed at freedom,” a protester said.

Holding banners and placards, the protesting students later dispersed peacefully.

Earlier the University aaplied for the permission of 230 students for the concert, however state government didn't allowed them and had invited only the Vice-chancellor of the university to attend the concert.

Protests were also reported from Srinagar's Kadi Kadal, Saraf Kadal, MR Gunj, Kawdara, north Kashmir's Baramulla and Kupwara towns, south Kashmir's Shopian town and central Kashmir's Ganderbal town. Bolevard road is Srinagar which leads towards the Shalimar Garden has been made out of reach from the people. While Indian forces are deployed in various parts of the valley to thwart any untoward movement.

The call for protests was given by the veteran hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Gelani have also called for civil curfew tomorrow. High Court Bar Association had also called to boycott courts tomorrow. Civil rights group have organized a parallel event 'Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir' which will commence from 12:00 noon tomorrow and the chances for this concert are very low.

An organizer of the Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir while talking to KMR NEWS alleged that the district administration Srinagar have asked us to give the list of all the attendants of this concert, so that they can keep them under house arrest.

"In case the state government didn't allowed us to hold the concert, we will hold a sit-in-protest at Lal chowk." He added.
