Zubin Mehta's Concert: Lawyers to Boycott Courts tomorrow
SRINAGAR; 06, Sep 2013: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association(HCBA) has extended its support to Hurriyat Conference(G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani’s September 7 shutdown call against the Zubin Mehta concert and also decided to boycott courts on the day “as a mark of protest .”
The decision was taken at a meeting Thursday, a spokesman of the lawyers’ body said in a statement.
The lawyers’ body termed the concert as a “diversionary tactic to hoodwink the international community that everything is peaceful and normal in Jammu and Kashmir.”
“ We appeal the international community and the puppet government of Jammu and Kashmir not to allow itself to become a party to the activities that seek to further legitimize the occupation of J&K by the Indian state . This is an attempt to portray normalcy and peace in Jammu and Kashmir which is not a reality,” the spokesman said.
“The Bar Association also has decided that lawyers will not appear before the courts on the said date as a mark of protest,” the spokesman said.
