SRINAGAR; Cellphones and wireless internet connections across Kashmir valley were rendered inactive as official functions to celebrate the Republic Day started on Sunday morning.

All mobile phone and wireless internet services were jammed by authorities this morning as a precautionary measure, official sources said. However, internet services through land line telephone connections were functioning. It has become a regular practice in Kashmir to jam the mobile telephony and internet signals during Indai's Republic Day and Independence Day functions.  The services were restored as soon as the official functions were over in the afternoon.
