Valley Remains Cut Off From World

SRINAGAR;  Kashmir remained cut off from rest of the world for second day as the only surface link, the Srinagar -Jammu highway, remained closed and air traffic was suspended after fresh snowfall on Wednesday.

“A fresh wave of western disturbance has settled over Kashmir since Wednesday. The weather is expected to improve by Friday. Till then, cold conditions will persist and night temperature may fall further,” a Met official in Srinagar said.

Air traffic which was suspended after Wednesday’s snowfall is yet to resume and the work to clear snow from the Srinagar-Jammu highway which was closed over avalanche warnings is in progress.

The lone 294-km stretch, the only all-weather only road link between Kashmir and rest of the India was closed Wednesday afternoon when it began to snow. Only those vehicles which had managed to cross Jawahar tunnel were allowed to proceed further.

Air traffic too remained suspended till 1200 hours.
