21 Year Old Woman Died Following Abortion
PULWAMA; At a time when the state government is declaring cash rewards to prevent female foeticide, a shocking incident occurred in south Kashmir’s Tral town where a lady doctor allegedly conducted an abortion of a female who developed some complications and breathed her last at SMHS Hospital.
Reports said locals staged a massive protest in Tral town after the death of the woman, Mehmooda Banoo, a resident of Satoora in Tral, and demanded immediate arrest of the husband of the deceased woman and the lady doctor who carried out the abortion.
Locals said the lady doctor conducted abortion of a 21-year-old, married woman on the instructions of her husband Farooq Ahmed Kumar at her private clinic located opposite sub district hospital in Tral.
Soon after the operation, the condition of patient worsened and the lady doctor admitted her in SDH Tral where, after check-up, she was advised to go to SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
Following the instructions of the doctors, the husband of the patient shifted her to Srinagar where the woman breathed her last on Wednesday.
Demanding stern punishment for the lady doctor and the husband of the deceased woman, protestors in Tral blocked traffic for hours. Protestors alleged that the doctor has performed such operations in lieu of hefty amounts in the past.
Medical Officer of Tral, Dr Shakeel Ahmed, said that they have conducted the post mortem of the deceased woman and are waiting for the FSL report.
“We will take action only after getting the report,” he said.
When contacted, Director Health Service, Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman said that the lady doctor will be punished if her guilt is proved.
