'Aasiya and Nelofar Still Waiting for Justice'

SRINAGAR; Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Friday alleged that the ruling National Conference (NC) party’s claims of empowering women of the state are hollow slogans when the party has disempowered them
“The NC has not fulfilled the promises which the party made with the women population of Jammu & Kashmir. The party had played with the sentiments of people by raising hollow slogans of Raishuramri and Autonomy. Not only the people of the state have been emotionally blackmailed but NC played with the sentiments of the women folk as well,” a party statement said.

Speaking at a various public meetings in Khansahib assembly segment of central Kashmir's Budgam district, AAP leader Raja Muzaffar Bhat who is also AAP's candidate from Srinagar Parliamentary seat said National Conference promised to establish a “Women's University” in the state in its 2008 assembly election manifesto but the party miserably failed to fulfil its promise.

“Leave aside Women University, the NC-led coalition could not even establish few Degree Colleges and other career based institutions for especially for girls,” he said.

“What kind of women empowerment NC is talking about when Asiya and Neelofar from Shopian and mothers of missing youth are still waiting for the justice? Where is NC's Truth and Reconciliation commission which they promised to set up? The State Women's Commission is a mere toothless tiger and a powerless institution whose orders are hardly implemented by the Government agencies,” he said.
