Central Jail Inmates Face Inhuman Treatment: SHRC
JAMMU; State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has criticized J&K government and Prison Department for ‘inhuman and ill treatment’ meted out to the inmates at Central Jail of Srinagar.
Taking suo motto cognizance in the case, the Commission has served notices to Principal Secretary of Home Department, DGP J&K Police, ADGP Prisons and Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar in this regard.
The Commission took notice of the pitiable condition of the jail inmates who were allegedly subjected to inhuman treatment by the jail authorities.
“The jail inmates are being provided worst drainage system, substandard food, medicines and deprived of medical care,” SHRC’s annual report disclosed.
