Curfew Imposed in Parts of Srinagar and North Kashmir
SRINAGAR; Curfew was on Saturday imposed in parts of old city besides in many towns and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir to prevent any violence following the killing of a teenage boy, Farhat Dar (18) in Indian forces firing in Bandipora district on Friday evening.
However, police said only restrictions under Section 144 CrPC were being strictly implemented in parts of Bandipora District and areas of Safakadal, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M R Gunj and Rainawari
Residents of old city alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of our houses by security forces deployed since early on Saturday morning. "Repeated announcements were being made that curfew has been imposed since 5 am and people are directed to remain indoors," a resident Muzaffar Ahmad told from Nawa Kadal.
A large number of Central Paramilitary forces and state police personnel were deployed on streets to strictly implement the curfew like restrictions.
Spokesman of Hurriyat Conference, Ayaz Akbar told that police conducted raids at the residences of resistance leaders since Friday evening after the firing incident. He said his house was also raided late on Friday night.
Meanwhile, normal life elsewhere in the Valley came to a standstill as markets remained closed in protest against the killing. However, skeletal transport services were plying some routes in the Valley.
