Geelani Returns to Kashmir; House Arrested

SRINAGAR; Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest immediately after his arrival from New Delhi today.

A spokesman of the Hurriyat Aiyaz Akbar said Mr Geelani was put in a police vehicle immediately after stepping out from the Srinagar Airport.

He was later put under house arrest, Aiyaz said adding a large number of troops and state police personnel had been deployed outside his Hyderpora house to prevent him from moving out.

Pertinently, after remaining under siege for 234 days, the Hurriyat leader was set free on October 29. However, he was again house detained after people hold mass rallies to welcome him in Shupiyan, Pulwama, Kupwara and Sopore.
