Rich Tributes Paid to Ayoub Thakur
SRINAGAR; On the 10th death anniversary of Muhammad Ayoub Thakkur, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (a joint amalgam of pro-freedom parties) prayed for his eternal peace on Sunday.
In a statement issued to Kashmir Informer, Hurriyat said that Thakur Sahab had dedicated his whole life for the Islam and Kashmir cause and he has been very loyal to this mission.
The statement further reads, Thakkur have set an example for the intellectual people of Kashmir and have teached us the lesson of loyalty and respect with the mission. Ayoub Sahab was a great scientist and if he had been in Kashmir he would have reached the top most status of the state, but he not only sacrificed these posts, he left his family and country and he used all his talent for the cause.
Muhammad Ayoub Thakkur, born in 1948 in Pudsoo village of Shopian district, was a Kashmiri political activist and founder of London-based World Kashmir Freedom Movement (WKFM). Thakur lectured extensively on Kashmir issue. He attended hundreds of seminars and conferences around the world in universities, think tanks and other institutions, including the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and United Nations bodies.
He died at the age of 55, in London on March 10, 2004 after an illness. He was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis. His funeral was held at the London Central Mosque, Regent Park, and he was laid to rest at the Garden of Peace, in Greenford, West London, close to where he had been living for many years
