SRINAGAR; Protests were held in parts of Kashmir against the death sentence to 529 Morsi supporters by an Egyptian court on Monday.
Peaceful protest in Shopian

According to reports, peaceful protests were held in South Kashmir's Shopian district after Friday prayers. Chanting pro-islamic slogans, the protesters marched through the streets of main town. The protesters alleged that it is a miscarrage of justice. They also said that it is the policy of the anti-muslim elements to kill more and more muslims throughout the world.

A protester Zakir-ul-Islam said, "This is a disturbing verdict that infringed all laws, regulations, as well as the constitution of all countries. It is a reckless verdict that was borne from anger."

Protests were also reported in Palhalan and Old town Baramulla.

According to eye-witnesses, soon after Friday prayers youth took out a procession near Bus Stand Baramulla which was intercepted by Police. Forces lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protestors who later assembled at Jamia Bridge Baramulla & pelted stones on forces triggering clashes. In the clashes two policemen sustained injuroes.

Groups of youths indulged in stone-pelting on police deployment at Khanpora in Baramulla district after Friday prayers injuring a sub-inspector and a cop, a police spokesman said.

In Palhalan, youth took out a procession and pelted stones on forces who retaliated by lobbing canisters. Ding-dong battles continues till the last reports were recieved.

The call for holding peaceful protests was given by the veteran hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to support muslim brotherhood.

Pertinently, 529 Morsi supporters were sentenced to death for the murder of a single policeman, in a mass trial that lasted less than two days. The defendants were sentenced in Minya, a southern city that was hardest hit by a spasm of anti-state and sectarian violence that erupted across Egypt last August. Mobs thought to be sympathetic to Morsi attacked dozens of churches and police stations in revenge for the state's brutal clearance of a pro-Morsi protest camp in Cairo.

Amnesty International described the news as "injustice writ large", and said it was the largest single batch of death sentences it had seen anywhere in the world in recent memory
